Some food for thought.

Love supporting small business but Merrick Ave. needs more shopping options. There are only so many manicures and barber haircuts my family can handle.

I love merrick but needs an major upgrade! We need a local coffee shop (like other towns) and more options for shopping and dinning!! Really difficult though when large trucks are able to come barreling down Merrick Ave, destroying trees, making a lot of noise, and passing 3-4 schools.

Dear Neighbor,

Last week the construction crews continued road work on Oakwood Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, and Merrick Avenue. We are pleased to announce that backfilling has been completed on Merrick Avenue. Work on Oakwood Avenue is expected to be complete by the end of the week. Work on Commonwealth avenue is ongoing.

Traffic around the work zone will be directed by flaggers as needed. Drivers traveling past the work zone should expect delays and plan accordingly. We ask drivers and pedestrians to remain alert and abide by all traffic control devices when traveling near the work zone.

As a friendly reminder, there is no street parking permitted within the work zones during work hours. Equipment and material storage will temporarily reduce street parking availability near the work zone on Commonwealth Avenue, Oakwood Avenue, and Hewlett Avenue.

The outreach team is continuing to canvass residences and businesses along the project route to share information about our work.

*Over the next week, neighbors can expect to see:

Backfilling on Oakwood Avenue between Merrick Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue.
Excavation and backfilling on Commonwealth Avenue between Brooklyn Avenue and Jefferson Street.
Traffic management updates:

Work on Oakwood Avenue will require temporary road closures for all traffic during daytime work hours (7:00am - 4:00pm).
Work on Oakwood Avenue will require temporary road closure between Merrick Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue in both directions.
Traffic will be rerouted by signs and flaggers as needed. Please remain alert and drive safely.
