June 2015 – What’s happening with MCC

This June the community is invited to join the Merrick Chamber for its annual Scholarship Winner Dinner, see events page for details.

The Merrick Chamber of Commerce has one of the largest scholarship programs run by such an organization in New York. The program is funded by the annual Spring Kids Fest event held in April. What began as an opportunity to honor one graduate from each of our high schools has evolved into splitting the award between two deserving students.

The winners of the scholarships are chosen by the guidance counselors from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District — Sanford H. Calhoun, John F. Kennedy and Wellington C. Mepham. Recipients are graduating seniors who might not meet the traditional criteria for such an award, but have something special or made a lasting contribution to their school community.

For the last few years the Merrick Chamber of Commerce has hosted this ceremony along with our organization’s Merchant and Professional of the Year awards. We have chosen to move those honors to our Annual Installation Dinner that usually takes place in January – stay tuned for future details.
